Stefana (Wedding Crowns) |
| |
Stefana (Crowns) are traditionally used at Greek Orthodox Weddings
At the Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony, the two stefanas are joined by a ribbon to symbolise the union of the Brides and grooms souls, at the same time establishing them as King and Queen of their home, where the will rule their "KINGDOM" or household with full responsibility and respect to each other and to GOD.
The priest takes the two stefanas, to crown the bride and groom. The Koubaro or Koumera (best man and best woman) then step behind the bride and groom to interchange the stefana three times as a witness to the sealing of this union.
The priest then leads the couple around the alter THREE times signifying the eternity of their marriage.
The Stefanas are placed on a silver tray which has on it a lace runner, small cuts of red ribbon and five sugared almonds.
